Louisiana Golf Courses Rebound
Golf, like so much else in the Gulf Region, has found a way to continue and persevere in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. For example, the Tournament Players Club (TPC) of Louisiana golf course, which re-opened in July of 2006, will host a PGA Tour event in 2007, but is open to the public for those who want to secure Louisiana tee times on an excellent course. The Pete Dye design received critical acclaim when it first opened in 2004. Try scheduling a tee time for after 3 p.m. to escape humidity and get better rates (currently $45 off the standard price of $125).

You’ll want to rent a cart and play quickly to get in all 18 before darkness hits. If the chance to play the TPC track makes you a little nervous, there's the wonderful option of the Copper Mill Golf Club just north of Baton Rouge. Offering links-style golf, Copper Hill also includes three par-3s, three par-4s and three par-5s on both the front and back nines - a true treat for all levels of golfer. Hole No. 12 is known as "Odyssey" and at 632 yards, that's exactly what a few errant shots will make that expansive tract of a hole.
