Course Description

The 6,621-yard, par 71 Blackheath Course is actually a combination of an existing nine holes, previously called the Ford’s Colony Gold Course, and nine new holes, all of which were conceived by Dan Maples. New holes intersperse with existing holes on Blackheath to create a compelling and unique new 18. Maples also teamed with his father, Ellis Maples, in the design of the original 18 holes at Ford’s Colony, which date back to the community’s origins in 1985. The Blackheath name celebrates both the birth of golf in England and the settlement of nearby Jamestown by three shiploads of intrepid English explorers, who first anchored off the shore of Jamestown Island in 1607. The settlement of Jamestown occurred within months of the formation of the first golf club in England in 1608. In that year, the sport was played over five holes across the grounds at Blackheath Common, located just outside of London. Today, the venerable 18-hole Royal Blackheath Golf Club is a testament to the centuries-old legacy of golf in the British Isles.

Signature Hole

Hole #18. The last hole in the "valley of golf," this 356 par four is truly one of the most beautiful finishing holes in the state. Although it is not an extremely long hole, you must hit an accurate tee shot to avoid the water that borders the entire left side of the fairway and the towering hardwoods that border the right side. You must then hit your approach shot to an island green surrounded by water. Additionally, you must contend with two green-side bunkers and the swirling winds that funnel down the "valley of golf."
