Kirkcudbright Golf Club
About
The gentle slopes of Kirkcudbright Golf Course reward the golfer with magnificent panoramic views over the Galloway Hills and the Dee Estuary.
Golfers will be greeted by a tough opening tee shot with everything going left on the 330-yard, par-4 first hole. Some try an iron shot to the ridge, and others try to hit a driver out over the hill.
One of the more challenging holes is the 449-yard, par-4 12th, a dogleg to the left, with out of bounds on the left. An accurate tee shot is required between the bunkers. There is also a pot bunker to deal with in front of the green.
Founded in 1893, the 18-hole, par-69 parkland course is conveniently located on the southern edge of the beautiful and historic town. Located about 25 miles west of Dumfries, the town of Kirkcudbright is easily accessible.

Scenic challenge
Course in good condition, but presents a few challenges in negotiating one’s way around the course in places, especially the 2nd where it is rather unclear as to where the green can be found! We also encountered a hold up at the 15th tee box from people playing the 2nd (like us not knowing the course and finding exactly the same problem we had). It is not safe for two groups to play these two holes together. It did get easier to negotiate and the back 9 on the whole was a whole lot easier. No catering available when we played and the Thai takeaway option is not as most people perceive a takeaway, so holiday makers wanting this option should be made aware of the special operating system. We missed out because of this. Would we play this course again? Yes, on a second playing these problems would be ironed out (no pun intended !) but the golfing challenges would still be there.
Kirkcudbright Golf Club
A lovely golf course and super layout with interesting holes. The views of surrounding countryside were beautiful. A pleasure to play the course and a very friendly welcome at the clubhouse.
Excellent course
On arrival was greeted by two members who were working in booking office. Couldn’t do enough to help. Weather was warm and sunny but course was still relatively quiet. Was able to enjoy a leisurely game on a well set out course. Greens in excellent condition and some lovely views over Kirkcudbright from top of course. Thoroughly recommend.
Too Many Temporary Greens
Have played here many times, and although the fairways were good after the heavy rain day before more than half holes were on temporary greens. Thought the majority were fine & thought usually only go to temps if heavy frost, disappointing.
Play it, fall in love with it.
Scenic, challenging, interesting, well manicured, stunning and with outstanding natural beauty. A gem all around. I can’t think of anything not to like about Kirkcudbright golf course. I’ve always wanted to return to this place since I played it for the first time few years ago but the opportunity never arises so we had to arrange our plans to make our second visit possible. The greens have been recently hollowtined and autumn leaves in some places but those didn’t affect our enjoyment because the course and its layout is simply wonderful.
This course is kept in excellent condition.
From the very warm welcome when we arrived at the course, to the condition of the greens and the wonderful views our day at Kirkcudbright was excellent. The only thing I would say is you have to be quite fit to enjoy playing this course as there are some fairly steep hills to climb. Will definitely be back.
Great course in Superb condition
This is a great little course with superb views. Excellent condition particularly the greens.
People/ players at the clubhouse were so friendly.
We would definitely go back if we were in the are a again.
Well worth a visit.
Stunning Views
The course has held up well to the recent hot dry weather & the views are just wonderful
Great scenery all round.
A very enjoyable round with the help of a buggy on a cold and windy day. This made the course quite a challenge. We were met and made very welcome on arrival with the buggy ready. A nice bit of advice before we set off made the experience memorable. Thank you to all concerned at Kirkcudbright Golf Club.
We shall definitely be returning.
South West Scotland Gem
Great course, a little hilly, with lots of varied holes and well groomed undulating greens. Course was very quiet when we played (late am tee). Friendly welcome. No food available late pm but we were able to buy a sandwich that we could take out with us. Views over Kirkcudbright to the coast are stunning.
Test of Golf
A testing, hilly course with fab views over Kirkcudbright and beyond.
We had a 3 ball consisting of a 10 handicapper, a 20 handicapper (myself) and a 24 handicapper.
The course was in terrific condition but required a careful approach with ball placement more important than distance - local knowledge would have been a good asset as there are many blind holes.
A very enjoyable round but with quite tough terrain on a tight course.
Very testing course to play first time
We were glad we booked a buggy at £20. This was our first visit to Kirkcudbright Golf Course. Myself 68 years old playing off 23 and grandson aged 13 playing off 18.
It is a course you would need to play quite a few times to get to know your way round. The score card does not show clearly the course layout. I would suggest investing in a course planner if available. The course is quite hilly with plenty of blind shots to play. It is quite demanding physically
and requires a lot of thought. Great course. Great time. We played Friday afternoon but bar was closed when we came in at 4.oopm. Not that it dampened our enjoyment of playing here. A Hidden Gem.
Local gem
Played here on a good day, course was in excellent condition and the staff welcoming and friendly.
The course is a bit hilly but not too much of a problem
A gem of a course
What a great parkland course! Very hilly with a few blind shots with each hole offering a different challenge. Some fantastic views over the estuary and a real joy to play although the greens need a couple more weeks to get into full shape. Great breakfast and warm, friendly and helpful staff and members. A definite revisit !!
First time at Kirkcudbright
We enjoyed a cold but dry day in February on this golf course. Ladies were just returning when we were setting out and they guided us to the first tee.
Quite a few winter greens but that is to be expected. Nice parkland course which seemed to play long but my husband said was just to do with the wind!
Wold return to the course.
