Grantown-on-Spey Golf Club
About
Located in the beautiful Spey Valley, Grantown-on-Spey Golf Club boasts magnificent views toward the Cairngorm range and the Cromdale Hills. Walking is relatively easy, and the golf course presents a fair challenge for every calibre of golfer.
Grantown-on-Spey measures 5,710 yards from the tips, playing to a par 70. It's divided into three sections: flat parkland, moderately hilly woodland and, finally, undulating parkland.
Perhaps Grantown-on-Spey Golf Club's most scenic hole is Murdie's View, the 275-yard ninth, a short downhill par 4 with the spectacular backdrop of the Cromdale Hills. When the heather is in bloom, it's quite a sight.

Highland golf to savour
Set in a beautiful part of the Scottish highlands, this course is cleverly designed through trees and heather and although in the hills it is not too difficult terrain to master on foot. Like most Scottish courses of this vintage (1890) what it may lack in length it more than makes up for with interesting and clever holes and tricky but fair greens. This is not a 'grip it and rip it' course. It requires thought and guile to place your tee shot properly and to then work out your best approach to the greens. Failure to do this will cost you strokes! There are a variety of really interesting holes and my favourite was the par 3 eighth. A straight shot up the hill into the wind trying to find a beautiful saucer- like green shaped and surrounded by mounds and bunkers. Take a club more than you think!
A fine traditional clubhouse with friendly staff and good food made this an excellent golfing experience. I thoroughly enjoyed my day.
You may pass through Grantown on your way to its more illustrious neighbours on the Moray Coast, but I recommend you stop and play this one. You won't be disappointed.
Great condition & beautiful views
Great location & extremely helpful friendly staff. Course in fantastic condition, will definitely be back
Classic heathland in a beautiful setting
If you play only links in the Highlands, you're missing half the beauty of this remote & magical part of Scotland. The River Spey winds through rolling hillsides of the Cairngoms National Park and produced a handful of worthy, classic inland courses. Grantown on Spey is a treat to play: very easy to walk and has a few wonderful views from elevated tee shots. On a whole, I would opt for nearby Boat of Garten over this course, but it's still a very charming, laid-back round of golf.
