Slope 130
Rating 74.8

Harburn Golf Club offers a testing 18-hole parkland course amid a smattering of beech, oak and pine trees. The club first saw play way back in 1932 and still makes for a tough round of golf for every level of golfer. On any golf trip to West Lothian, Harburn is a good stop, as it is close to the village of West Calder, which sits just 14 miles west of Edinburgh - giving you a chance to get out of the city.

Harburn Golf Club's course, a par 71, measures 6,125 yards. Tee-off on Torphin, a 326-yard par 4, which features a somewhat blind drive - get it right, and you're a short-iron from the green, which is guarded by a pair of bunkers and slopes back to front.

Survive Harburn Golf Club's next 16 holes, including The Raids, the 516-yard Lang Whang and the mysterious 15th hole, named "?". Head home on Hame. The 344-yard par 4 features another semi-blind drive. A solid second gets you to a tiny green (featuring bunkers on three sides), with left-right undulations that make for one of the day's toughest putts, perhaps made tougher by the fact that you're in full view of the clubhouse gallery.

Course in excellent condition for time of year. Not too long but with some tricky challenging holes. Well worth a visit.

Fantastic course

A course which has a railway line running through the heart of it is an excellent one to play.

Upon arrival, the resident pro was welcoming and the members who were in front of us were extremely friendly.

The course itself was very interesting, with a number of tests making the holes play with much more difficulty than the yardage would have you believe. The only negative on the day was that the course was undergoing maintenance of the greens so they were heavily sanded, which made putting very difficult.

Afterwards, the food in the clubhouse was excellent both in terms of quality and value for money, with excellent facilities. The changing rooms were very basic and right at the back of the clubhouse with a members area and a visitors area, but I would imagine this is a long standing tradition with the focus being placed on the members area rather than visitors.

Pleasurable round, played in great weather making it a definite that I will return and potentially seek to join next year.

Smashing Day

Good reception at pro shop. Pro friendly and informative
Course great but greens had been cored and sanded so were woeful to putt on. However otherwise course in great condition with some tricky approach shots required.
Overall, we thourghly enjoyed our trip both on and off course with the bar staff helpful and very friendly

Early spring condition

Like most inland courses in Scotland Harburn was three or four weeks behind in condition because of the awful weather. We got a lovely day to play, completely untroubled by any other golfers. It was quite balmy with little wind. The course was still largely in winter conditions but should be fine by the third week in May.

An enjoyable day but seaside is the place to be in Scotland for golf throughout the year. Rain and snow is rapidly making inland golf a something like five month of the year good experience for most places.

Harburn is an interesting layout and the staff and catering are good though we didn't go into the clubhouse on this occasion.

Course a bit too compressed for me

The course is split by a railway line. The 12 holes nearest the clubhouse are squeezed into a space a little too tight for me. Fairways were right alongside each other and A number of tees are right alongside holes which caused a few safety problems. The 6 holes across the track were much better and very well set up. The fairways were understandably wet in places but all the greens were fast and true. Clubhouse and staff excellent.

Fabulous Harburn

Had a great day on Easter Monday. 3 ball all loved the course and are considering one of the membership deals.
Course was in great condition and dry underfoot, so drainage working well.
Not a long course, but very picturesque and interesting holes. A good few holes need a bit of thinking to pick the best route.
Thoroughly enjoyed.

Good weather
Walked

Nice course, more trees than your average Scottish track, but fun!

Enjoyed the layout. Some challenges featuring undulating fairways, numerous tree lined holes, and some tight drives/dogleg holes. Course was in good condition, greens a bit slow, but made for a fun round.

Nice locals course

I found this course through golf now and got a great price. The course was filled with character and had a variety of difficulty. Nice rolling hills and loads of trees. The greens were shaggy and signage could use some improvement but overall I certainly enjoyed it.
