With a history that goes back to 1898, Lakewood Country Club is a solid choice for both members and public golfers in the Jersey Shore area. This classic parkland layout was originally designed by the great Tom Bendelow, and 22 years later it was updated in by Walter Travis. Today, the par-72 course plays to 6,555 yards from the back tees with generous fairways, challenging greens, bunkers, and mature trees to navigate. The course has three sets of tees in all, so all levels of players can enjoy the layout. The club is also known for its excellent pace of play and friendly staff. The course's routing is somewhat unique with three par 5s on the back making it a par 37, while the front is a par 35. The longest par-5 is the ninth at 522 yards, so they are definitely scoring opportunities. There are several short par-4 holes as well, but there are also a couple of long par 3s, like the 10th hole, which plays 219 yards from the back tee. In addition to the championship course, Lakewood Country Club also offers a Player Development Center, which has a six hole short course as well as a driving range. There's a practice putting green as well. And golf lessons are available too. Inside the clubhouse is a well-stocked golf shop with the latest in apparel, accessories and equipment. And guests and golfers alike can enjoy Maggies's Sports Bar, the perfect spot to unwind after a round and watch a game with a beverage and a selection of appetizers, sandwiches, burgers and other entrees.
