Just minutes away from the beach, River Run Golf Club has a Gary Player Signature golf course that's player-friendly, diverse and just plain enjoyable with lots of great scenery. Player's design, which plays 6,705 yards from the back set of tees, encourages lots of options into the greens, including bump and run shots. The course, which opened for play in 1991, starts out pretty wide open before moving onto more tree-lined holes on the back nine. While the back nine is certainly tighter, it's still very manageable, though. Overall, the course features modest bunkering along the fairways and greens, water comes into play on a few holes, and marshland adds to the natural beauty of the layout of River Run Golf Club. Fairways are also quite generous, and the mid-size greens are very approachable with openings on most of them for players to run the ball up if they need to. The no. 1 handicap hole is the par-5 15th, which is 614 yards long. It's the first of two par 5s in the last four holes. Practice facilities include a full driving range, short-game area and putting greens. The golf shop at River Run is a full-service facility, offering the latest in apparel, accessories and equipment, including club fitting. The clubhouse Hideaway Restaurant, overlooking the St. Martin River, is open for lunch and dinner, serving a wide variety of entrees, appetizers and drinks. It's one of the finest restaurants in the area. Open to the public, reservations are recommended for dinner.
