Coyote Creek Golf Club Tournament Course, conveniently located off of Highway 101 in San Jose near Morgan Hill, California, is a highly regarded and very challenging upscale championship course designed by Jack Nicklaus. This formerly private playing field and its easier sister course, Coyote Creek Golf Club Valley Course (also designed by Nicklaus), make Coyote Creek Golf Club one of the most popular golf facilities not only in Silicon Valley, but in the entire Bay Area. Skilled players, especially, relish the game at Coyote Creek Golf Club Tournament Course. In 2001 and 2002 the course earned its championship stripes by hosting a PGA Tour Champions event. The superbly designed, wonderfully varied playing field is bisected by Highway 101 (you cross under the highway via a tunnel). Each nine has a markedly different character. The front nine, which primarily rambles in foothills terrain, is the scenic highlight of the round, as most of the holes are hilly and lined by oak trees. The back nine of Coyote Creek Golf Club Tournament Course, located near the club's Valley Course on the west side of the freeway, spreads out on exposed, lower-lying, flat terrain. All throughout the round creeks cut across the wide fairways as ravines and native areas flank the landing areas and greens. The final four holes are highlighted by a series of lakes and two waterfalls. On the risk-reward par-5 17th, water blankets the front of the green. On the signature finishing hole, a par 4th that typically heads into the wind, lakes hug the right side of the fairway and extend moat-like in front of the putting surface. There s trouble of some sort on every hole on Coyote Creek Golf Club Tournament Course. Wind is also usually a concerning factor. Nicklaus laid out the playing field with experienced golfers in mind. Players need an aerial game to reach and hold several of the layout s target putting surfaces. The multi-tiered greens aren t large but they are fast with lots of undulation. Being on the proper tier is the key to a two-putt. Coyote Creek Golf Club Tournament Course often draws praise for its well-manicured greens and overall fine conditions. The practice facilities are highlighted by an all-grass range. The beautiful clubhouse features a bar and grill restaurant that serves very good food. With a rose garden in front of the patio and stunning views all around, it is no wonder Coyote Creek Golf Club is a popular spot for weddings and special events. What s really special, though, is a tee time at Coyote Creek Golf Club Tournament Course, a stunning layout that tests the skills of all levels of golfers.
