With views of the Superstition Mountains, great conditions, and fun, playable golf course, Western Skies Golf Club offers an enjoyable golf experience for locals and visitors alike. Located just 20 minutes from Phoenix's Sky Harbour International Airport, the par-72 golf course, which has three sets of tees, can play almost 6,800 yards. It was designed by Brian Whitcomb and opened in 1992. It underwent a multi-million dollar renovation a few years ago. The work included a new irrigation system as well as other important course improvements. The slogan of the facility is "where locals bring their friends." The course is laid out through tree-lined fairways with generous fairways and a few water features off the tee and protecting the greens. One of the more picturesque holes is the par-3 fourth, which plays 186 yards and requires a carry over water to find the green. There's also a large lake between the 10th and 18th holes, both short par 4s with an element of risk-reward in them. Besides the golf course, Western Skies Golf Club also has excellent practice facilities. They include a large grass driving range, short-game area, fairway and greenside practice bunkers, and practice putting green. Lessons are also available at Western Skies Golf Club. Inside the clubhouse is a well-stocked golf shop with all the latest apparel and accessories. The club's restaurant, Mulligans, offers a variety of sandwiches, appetizers, and cold beverages, and is a great place to relax or watch a ballgame.
