With some of the best views in the Valley, family-owned Desert Canyons Golf Club offers a championship golf course on a true desert mountain layout. Formerly known as Fountain Hills Golf Club from its opening in 1971 to 1998, this public golf course designed by John Allen remains a favorite in the Phoenix area. The course, a par 71 that can play 6,410 yards, has elevated tee boxes and greens to challenge all levels of players. Additionally, from several points on the course, golfers have great views of the town's 550-foot fountain, which goes off every hour. The course has some elevation change and plenty of mountain views. There isn't much water on the course, but you will find it on the first hole, a dogleg left par 4 where water will come into play on the approach. The no. 1 handicap hole is the 420-yard par-4 14th, which plays into a bunker less green. That's followed by a downhill par 3 and a couple of tough par 4s to finish. Besides the golf course, Desert canyons Golf offers a driving range, short-game area, and practice putting green. Golf instruction is also available. And inside the clubhouse is a well-stocked golf shop with the latest in apparel, accessories, and equipment. The clubhouse is also where you will find the Desert Canyons Bar & Grill, a favorite restaurant for golfers and non golfers alike. Specials include Taco Tuesdays, carne asada, Philly cheesesteaks, and great selection of draft beer.
